SPRINT launches new Associate Membership initiative

Call for Higher Education Institutions to join the national business support programme and support UK space economy

The national SPace Research and Innovation Network for Technology (SPRINT) business support programme has launched a new Associate Membership initiative to improve the provision of space-related knowledge exchange across the UK.

The SPRINT programme provides unprecedented access to university space expertise and facilities, helping businesses through the commercial exploitation of space data and technologies. It is delivered by a consortium of five of the UK’s leading space universities, led by the University of Leicester and including the University of Edinburgh, The Open University, University of Southampton and University of Surrey.

Associate Membership is aimed at embedding new Higher Education Institution (HEI) partners into the SPRINT programme to work alongside these Founding Members. As an Associate Member, HEIs will be committed to supporting the growth of the space sector in the UK and to actively enabling this through knowledge exchange and commercialisation activities.

SPRINT is supported by Research England, the Scottish Funding Council and the UK Space Agency. The programme has engaged with over 450 businesses across the UK, enabling over 90 collaborative innovation projects with UK businesses and the university partners.

Martin Barstow, Principal Investigator of the SPRINT programme said: “The success of the many SPRINT projects completed so far is built on collaborative partnerships between the businesses and academic experts from each of the five SPRINT partner universities.

“To extend the research, data and technology capabilities that we can offer to businesses, we’re looking to add to our list of university partners by working with new Associate Members to facilitate even greater knowledge exchange.”

SPRINT Associate Members will benefit from:

  • Access to the SPRINT Innovation Adviser network and SPRINT business community
  • An opportunity to engage in fully-funded knowledge exchange activities in collaboration with businesses within the SPRINT business community – supported by a dedicated SPRINT Innovation Adviser
  • Inclusion and showcasing of relevant space-related university capabilities and expertise across the SPRINT marketing and communications channels (website, social media, exhibitions & conferences and business networking meetings/workshops) including the use of the SPRINT logo on related HEI-led marketing and communications
  • Sharing of knowledge exchange best practice in the space sector
  • Channels to contribute to future SPRINT-led funding proposals
  • Membership of a high-profile and well-regarded organisation within the UK space innovation ecosystem
