Devolved Nations HEI Collaborations

This particular funding opportunity is no longer available.

Full proposals are due for submission by 12 noon on Monday 20th December 2021 (Originally Friday 17th December 2021)

The UK Space Agency (UKSA) has extended its funding for the national SPRINT (SPace Research and Innovation Network for Technology) programme. This funding will support collaborations with Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. This will increase the collaborative opportunities for UK space-related businesses to work with academic experts and create high value partnerships, supporting the development of the UK space sector and the growth of the UK economy.

The additional funds provided by the UKSA will allow HEIs in the devolved nations to actively engage with the SPRINT programme and benefit from the funded collaborations with industry partners that SPRINT can provide. SPRINT Innovation Vouchers of up to £50,000 awarded to successful applicants, will provide funded access to research assistance from HEIs across the ‘Celtic Arc’ of Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, supporting SMEs in delivering technology development and innovation for space or for space-enabled applications.

Through this opportunity, innovative UK companies can now collaborate with experts from any devolved nation university to accelerate product and service development through the commercial exploitation of space technologies and data. These projects can enable companies to exploit space technologies and data in a wide range of commercial activities including (but not limited to):

  • Space products / technologies in the space sector
  • Space technologies and data deployed in non-space markets and applications
  • Commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) and non-space technologies deployed in space markets

SPRINT Innovation Vouchers can also be used to support feasibility studies, business planning, market analysis and other non-technical activities vital in product development cycle.

The budget available is £200k, with additional funds expected from the industrial collaborators. SPRINT intend to award up to a minimum of 4 projects.

Full proposals are due for submission by 12 noon on Monday 20th December 2021 (Originally Friday 17th December 2021)
