An understanding of oil spill signature in radar images is fundamental in order to extract valuable information about an oil spill in the aftermath of an accident to inform authorities responsible for cleanup operations. Modelling the weathering processes correctly and their effect on the radar backscattering is the purpose of this project with the aim to improve detection rates, reduce false alarms and retrieve information about the spill.
