Southampton's Space Environment Physics group owns and operates sophisticated auroral cameras in the high Arctic (Svalbard) which can measure the energy (speed) of charged particles entering the Earth's atmosphere at high-resolution, and allow study of the plasma processes occurring in near-Earth space.
