The Centre for Electronic Imaging (CEI) specialises in the design, development and operation of CCD and CMOS imaging detectors for high performance applications, such as space, and works with Space Agencies, companies and Universities around the world on near infra-red, visible, ultra-violet and X-ray imaging and spectroscopy instrumentation. Missions include Gaia, Euclid, JUICE, Athena, SMILE and WFIRST as well as cubesats such as UKube-1 and AlSat-Nano. The CEI's research on imaging detectors covers the entire instrument lifetime from design to de-commissioning, TRL1-9, and includes design, modelling and simulation, lab-based characterisation, optimisation and radiation damage effects, calibration, device operations, pipeline processing software and data analysis.
